Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing this email to you as I believe that I can a great addition to your company/apprenticeship as a short film/movie editor. I recently finished Sixth Form College and achieved Distinction Grades in Extended Media and have a short video of the work I have edited and created in the last 2 years.

I think working with your company would be an excellent opportunity for me as I am looking to push myself and develop my skills.

I have attached my CV and University Personal Statement to this email, please could you give it a read and consider bringing me on board as a part of your company.

Many Thanks

Jake McEvoy

My Personal Statement

Film & TV Production BA (Hons)

I am interested in the technical and creative side of media, in particular film and television. This course has the units that allow me to develop in these areas and help me improve and expand on my skills. I believe I have the skills needed to succeed in this course, this includes camerawork, sound design/sound mixing and video editing for short films. In addition having organisation and presentation skills. I believe critical evaluation skills will be crucial for this course, which will help me to pursue a career in pre/post production in the film and TV industry. I studied Film Studies at GCSE and I am currently studying the Level 3 Extended Media Diploma Level 3. I am keen to gain more of an understanding of the technical side of film and television, and to develop my creative ideas through film and television.

I actively sought out and secured a week’s work experience with a local film company as I am interested in gaining an insight into how this type of company is run. My main aim for carrying out this work experience was to increase my knowledge of video editing and camerawork, as I am inspired by the satisfaction of coming up with spontaneous ideas even after a plan, and how my improvisation skills come to life. Since starting my Extended Diploma Level 3 in Media at Sixth Form I have learnt how to be independent with study and manage my time effectively in order to complete all my units to a high standard. I have an active interest in film and try and see a range of mainstream and independent films and a variety of short films in my spare time. I have built up a large following across social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter and Instagram. I have done this by capturing my passion and sharing it with others. I have taught myself how to edit using premiere pro, Sony Vegas and Photoshop, and with these skills I have been able to create a strong presence on YouTube. I have a real passion for editing and using my skills to create a narrative from video footage.

I also enjoy scriptwriting and coming up with new ideas and exploring news ways of showing how we see and interpret the world using common themes such as fear; conflict; loss and connection. This particular course appeals to me because it aims to provide an environment where I can develop further a practical experience of film and television production. It will also allow me to gain a deeper understanding of how the film industry works. Furthermore, I would benefit greatly from receiving lectures given by leading practitioners in these industries. The course modules cover a wide range of skills, both creative and technical that I am able to achieve the best I can. I also like the idea of being able to participate in the ERASMUS Exchange Programme and spending some time abroad in a different learning culture.

(I include with this statement a short show reel of some of my short video productions).
